"Design is a state of mind found in every moment of daily life, a lifestyle that embraces timeless beauty, sustainability, and a harmonious relationship with the natural world"
Alvar Aalto
Form always follows function, but more importantly, it follows meaning. A product’s form is shaped by questions a designer must answer, who will use it, in what socio-cultural context, which needs it fulfills, and what technologies are available. These considerations determine most of the design, leaving little room for alternatives. As Enzo Mari said, for a given function and meaning, there is only one possible form; anything else is unnecessary formalism. While design is often seen as creative, the process is highly rational, driven by research and problem-solving.
